You can contribute to the Cornell community and the efforts of the PTA in all kinds of ways! We are currently looking for volunteers with a variety of projects. Contact us to see how you can get involved.
We are also currently looking for individuals to fill several fun but important positions. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Louise Berhau at 510-525-1779, by email at vicepres (at) cornellpta (dot) org, or with our online contact form.
“Creating Community” Roles:
Ice Cream Social Coordinator – Publicize event in Pinkie and flyer, buy – or ideally get donations – of ice cream for this September event, work with the Volunteer Coordinator to enlist scoopers to dish it out, organize the set up and clean up.
Hospitality Coordinator – Be a Greeter and help host school events. Events can include First Day of School Coffee, PTA meetings, Ice Cream Social, etc. You are NOT expected to be at all events and of course, if several people sign up, each could take one or two events.
Walking School Bus Coordinator - Spare the Air! Save time and gas! Be healthy! Make new friends! Organize volunteers and routes for this parent run program that can only continue if we have a coordinator and volunteer “Bus Walkers”.
Albany Middle School Liaison – Have children in both Cornell and AMS? The Cornell PTA is looking for someone who can help us keep appraised of important issues at the middle school level and also coordinate on important dates. Ideally the person would be involved in the AMS PTA, occasionally attending meetings and providing an update (either in person or via email) on important issues, events, fundraisers so we can get our community involved when appropriate. After all, our Coyotes will be at AMS soon enough and we want to help support AMS programs.
Fundraising Roles:
Hundred-day-a-thon Coordinator - Publicize and raise awareness for this new Cornell fundraiser. On the 100th day of school, families will be asked to donate $100. This simple fundraiser involves informing parents of the request, sending home envelopes for the donations, and collecting funds. Last year, this raised over $20,000 for Marin School.
SchoolCARE Coordinators – SchoolCARE aims to cooperatively restore teaching positions and programs eliminated in budget cuts, and to mitigate those cuts, to the greatest extent possible. SC is able to pay salaries (for reading specialists/counselors/classroom aides, etc.), which is something the PTAs are not allowed to do. We need several volunteers to raise awareness and funds from Cornell Families for SchoolCARE.
Movie Night Coordinator – Coordinate the marketing, volunteers and operations of the monthly movie nights. We have a movie license to show movies at the school and would like to have someone lead the organization around those.
Cornell Wear Sellers – Sell Cornell Clothing at Cornell Events! We have lots of shirts/hats/sweatshirts etc., and we need people to sell them at all Cornell events. Would be wonderful to have this job shared so various people can take turns.
